History of our Headquarters

CTVR headquarters is in Dunlop Oriel House in Dublin. It is just off the back of the Trinity Campus. mc-(2).jpg

Dunlop Oriel House has a very interesting history. It was the headquarters of Dunlop Rubber, and the address at which the original pneumatic tyre patent was draughted in 1893 'for the wheels of Velocipedes and other Vehicles'.

During the Irish Civil War, it became the base for the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Irish Free State's nascent police force. This was run by Michael Collins. There are those that say the place is haunted!

It was used by the Department of Lands in the late 1940s and Gaeltarra Eireann had its head office there in the 1950s.

Dunlop Oriel House was also the location for the Dental School in Trinity before the Dental School moved to its current building nearby.

We are currently gathering more information on our building.
